Description
rue is a low, shrub found through out the world. The leaves are an
pale green, very divided into irregular leaflets and small clumps of yellow
flowers appear at the end of summer and develop into seed pods holding small
black seeds. The leaves have a strong musty-fruit smell and are bitter to the

grows more than a meter high
Overview and Mythology.
The name Herb of Grace is derived from the middle ages when the
leaves were used to spread holy water during mass. It was used to protect
against evil and was carried by the judges in the courts to ward off evil
hence the saying “you will rue the day”
the Greeks used it in a potion as
an antidote to a wide range of poisons.
Derived from the Greek—Reno meaning to set free and
Graveolens meaning heavy scented.
In some European countries, it is
planted at the back door to ward off evil.the club
symbol on cards is said to be derived from the leaf pattern.
Constituents.
Essential oil-- limonene, pinene, anisic acid, Limonene has the property of
dissolving gall stones and research shows effective in breast, liver,
pancreatic and lung cancer.

Flavonoids-- rutin, quercitin, hypericin,the flavvonoids are very beneficial to the cardiovascular
system
Furanocoumarins-- bergapten, psoralen, xanthotoxin,

Dosage
Recommendations
Tinctures or infusions are used. A cup of boiling water is poured on 1 g
of the herb and allowed to stand for 10 minutes before straining. The
infusion is taken twice a day.
It is also available in capsule and ointment form.
